Check out the festivities of the Carnival in Santiago de Cuba that go back at the end of the 17th century. During the colonial period, the Spanish authorities have allowed the slaves to celebrate Epiphany with their own music and their own dance. At the end of the nineteenth century, these celebrations were also held in June and July to celebrate various festivals. At the beginning of the XX th century, dance processions of decorated floats and neighborhood groups began to parade in the streets, a tradition still observed. Whatever many Cuban cities organise their own Carnival celebrations, none draws a bigger crowd than the Santiago Carnival. Indeed, the whole city seems to move to the rhythm of the conga, the sound of the Chinese trumpet and dozens of instruments to percussionqui lead dancing crowds on the steep roads of the city.
